Kino Fistula

Am currently recovering from this operation (thanks very much, Hippocrates) so there will either be very few posts, or far too many, over the next few days, depending on my codeine intake. I'm being well looked after, but metaphorical cards and grapes are always welcome. The last of the current round of essays and papers is now at the Measures, and is both my (entirely non-cinematic) contribution to the Work edition Kino Fist, and a belated full reply to my enemies over the Jobseekers' argument a few months back. most of the other essays are here, apart from Emmy's and I.T's, which are to be found at their respective usual places. Profuse thanks to everyone who answered the call of non-duty.

Get well soon (2); I hope it wasn't as bad as that wiki stub makes it sound, although hard to imagine the old school Hippocrates version (thank god for the invention of high grade pain killers).
Irrelevant aside - just re-read Gregory Elliott's book on Perry Anderson and considering you have been previously accused of being Deutscherite if you want to add to your olypiam credentials you could go for the full combo of Pabloist-Deutscherite.
'the vocation of theory - office of the 'serene Olympian' stationed in the watchtower - is not to express a practical movement of social transformation, but to explain - and criticize - the existing state of affairs, on whose abolition only a quasi-Pascalian wager may be hazarded' (pp.242-243)
That's virtually a description of my position... (or petit-bourgeois left-deviationist with catastrophist tendencies)

It could be worse: you could have S. T. Coleridge's gouty testicles. Although he did at least have access to laudanum. But codeine is not bad, as such things go. Anyway, get well soon!

All's Well That Ends Well. Ha ha ha. :(

In addition to being glad that you don't have gouty testicles like Coleridge (um. ew.) you can be glad that you're not the King of France, because being the King of France AND having a fistula would be worse than just having a fistula.

Best of luck on your recovery.

Well, it could always be worse. On the other hand, it could be better - for instance, you could have had that disease where you get plenty of sex, attention, money and power, never a boring moment, everybody hanging on your every word, taxicabs paying you for the honor of transporting you wherever you chose to go, architects listening in awe as you tell them what and where to build...
Oh yeah, it is called absolute power. Supposedly leads to absolute corruption. Terrible, that. Something to be avoided at all costs. Be thankful you haven't come down with it!
Get well soon!

Mmm, I'm glad I've not got that. Or so it would appear. Thanks all! x

Owen, while recuperating, you might want to check out this Sunday's NYT Magazine, devoted to the City of Tomorrow. Especially this article:
