The Tricorn Lives in Our Hearts

Me on English Heritage, in the New Statesman. There's also a piece in this month's Blueprint on 'trickle-down architecture' - although you'll have to actually buy the thing.

UPDATE: now with angry letter! Love the Joy Division reference...(it's the fourth letter down)

AHEM...
(i) (a pedant writes) English Heritage don't list buildings - they make recommendations to the Secretary of State at DCMS;

(ii) in the case of the Tricorn, EH's recommendation in March 2004 was NOT to list it (much to the annoyance of the Twentieth Century Society and Portsmouth Society).

(i) I know, but that would make a long sentence much longer...
(ii) Funny, the book I was reviewing said quite clearly that they listed it Grade II*! I actually checked it last night to make sure, as I worried that I had just misread, because I don't remember it being listed at the time. As it was published by EH themselves I can only presume that was revisionism...?

I like the NS reader's angry letter - "shopping a vaguely sinister experience" - imagine that!
