Coldness and Cruelty

Though I admit to only being able to handle happy hardcore in 2 minute doses, Voyou Desoeuvre and &so this is christmas say some pertinent things here on affective coldness, viz: a cold pop music seems to begin from the essential painful nature of the world, but recognizes the worthlessness of raising this pain as a simple complaint.

See the Gang of Four's line of being 'Against Warmth'. I tend to find there's nothing more life-affirming than a glacial synth line. It's difficult though not to fit this into some fairly hoary polarities, along with cleanliness and dirt in pop, or even the authentic/artificial conundrum, though the post above suggests ways out of this.
