Towards a Political Furniture

'Political Furniture' is what I've decided to tell people from now on what exactly it is that I am researching (paid for by YOU the taxpayer). I said it to some Wittgensteinians the other day and the response was good. And less frivolously, there shall be at least a chapter on this, from Walter Benjamin's tales of being swallowed by the curlicues of the armchairs of the Prussian bourgeois in his Berlin Childhood around 1900, to the hammer & sickle chairs designed by the Vkhutemas school (shown in Khan-Magomedov's shamefully out of print Pioneers of Soviet Architecture), the liberation of the chair from mystification and comfort by Gerrit Rietveld, to the catatonic blankness of the Ikea sofa...
